Owning a private library constituted by a great value collection that was not acquired with a simple collector’s motivation or to be commercialized, but to content his intelectual curiosity, Osmar Rodrigues Cruz has shared it, when it is possible, with other people moved by the same curiosity, allowing researches realization, such as dissertations and thesis.
Spite of the difficulty to keep it, he never thought of selling it, although he had had proposals for it, if he accepted it he would permit that his collection would be for a restricted group. The possibility to donate it to an university, considering that no education and research institution has a same value collection, it had to be unfortunately aborted because, the universities didn’t have the required substructure to keep such a great value collection, which is constituted by antique works that can’t suffer handling, what would sentence it to an end.
So this project aims to organize a virtual library in order to preserve this collection to next generations and at the same time make it available to more restless researchers such as Osmar Rodrigues Cruz is.
That library would reach an even more heterogeneous group due the fact it could be accessed by internet. The repercussion of that library as a knowledge diffuser would allow the continuity of the work initiated with the TPS because through internet the public schools could expose their less favored students to art and culture, stimulating them to think about theater not only as simple leisure, but also as a participation place.
It still has to be considered the necessity to promote that specific knowledge together with the theater involved professionals, educators and the professionals which áreas are close to this kind of art, stimulating their improvement and conceiving more critical professionals with a much more solid education, especially in a country like Brazil.
It’s absolutely necessary to consider that since its own colonization Brazil had always suffered the consequences of a politics that refuses to aware people about their citizens rights and duties and of their cultural values making them analytical because non-informed people was always propitious to maintain authoritarian governments and to perpetuate a politics focused on the elite’s interests.
The educational system in Brazil has been passing through democratization but it has still lack of a more investigative education, founded in reflexion, concerned about a critical attitude. The lack of a more expressive reward, like teachers’ payment doesn’t stimulate the educator, and in fact it disdains them what is certainly not a motivation to look for improvement and knowledge in post-graduation courses, which are in fact taking by few people that are on top of the pyramid, which on the other side has a large foundation.
In a country with approximated 35% of iliterates and which founder education is based on a non-failure system, people lack for knowledge and they can’t develop their interpretative and critical ability. When they develop it, they are restrained to private institutions because the public ones, what offer a higher quality education are an elite monopoly, which children have access to a better quality education in private schools. Then the college has to solve the issues that were postponed in foundation school and high school in order to balance the student’s knowledge. Professionals with a restrained education and just a little bit eclectic don’t think about theater as a place for art and culture – for awareness development, but they think about it as place just for leisure.
Such a library like that would benefit those who need a better education. It will change this situation in a medium and long term. That project will be available to Ongs, Unions, Associations, Theater Companies, Universities Research Centers, State and Municipal Public Schools, what is a huge source of high quality knowledge, being also appealing because the theater always provokes a special taste. In a medium and long terms it will benefit the schools allowing them to know the theater operation, helping new theater groups creation and finally making theater a place for learning the mother tongue and each one’s expression knowledge potential, creating an exchange with the Scenic Arts students stimulating them to see the popular theater as a more critical awareness former.
